The Storytelling Mastermind

Thursday 10 September, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm AEST

The Storytelling Mastermind

Jesus taught in parables for a reason – stories are the most effective way to convey a message that will be remembered.

The Christian message often gets lost in our society. There are many competing messages: advertising, politics, social media, entertainment… these shape how people see themselves, their families, their jobs and the world they live in. The church has been struggling to keep up with culture and break through the noise with a message that truly resonates with people on the street and in the workplace.

What hope is there, with so many competing narratives, most of which are louder and better funded than those of the church? Luckily, the odds are on our side. The strongest – not the loudest – narrative wins.

This half-day session is a highly practical look at effective storytelling. You will be provided with worksheets, guides and resources. Eugene Wong from A Stronger Narrative will help you to understand:

  1. WHY effective storytelling works so well and is an essential skill when sharing the gospel.
  2. HOW to draw people in and take them on a journey with well told stories, and
  3. WHAT you can do to shape the narrative and perspectives of your church and the culture of the wider community.

You’ll be challenged to think bigger, to dare to believe in your church members, and most importantly, you’ll be taught how to empower them to make it happen

Eugene Wong (A Stronger Narrative)
Eugene is an expert storyteller and culture shaper. He founded and led the missional performing arts company Candlelight Productions for 15 years. Eugene is the Arts, Culture and Community Engagement Strategist for the Centre for Building Better Community. He sits on the boards or in advisory positions of a range of culture shaping organisations.

Eugene spends most of his time as the Chief Story Shaper for A Stronger Narrative, coaching leaders about how to maximise their impact through clearer identity and innovative connections with their target audiences. He often helps churches and other organisations design their community engagement practices.

KEN'S STORY

“Evan’s help arrived just in time for the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne. As our 200 parishes faced the challenge of adapting to virtual church in the COVID19 lockdown, Evan designed and delivered a series of webinars that gave our clergy skills and confidence to switch to digital with minimum anxiety.

His patience and expertise in personal consultations helped even the most technically-challenged to find their way forward.”

BRIAN'S STORY

Digital Team Coach exceeded our expectations in the role of helping churches transition to online. Evan ran a variety of training sessions helping those who had little-to-no experience be confident in running church online. Not only did he do what was needed in a crisis, getting church services online, he then helped people look forward to what they could do in the future to grow beyond the basic need to survive, into a desire to thrive using digital systems.

With Evan’s help our whole organisation took a 5-year leap in a matter of weeks.

JEREMY'S STORY

“Digital Team Coach provided expertise and value-adding questions to enable me to be more productive and creative in my work. This has encouraged and progressed our team for our administration, communication and digital systems into the future.”

ANDREW'S STORY

“I commend you on your impeccable organisation – your website of resources and your knowledge of digital technologies – you speak with and from experience.

Your presentation style is very engaging and casual – you make us feel valued and you respect and encourage our contributions. Online teaching/learning is not as “natural” as face to face but your style rises above the disconnect online communities can sometimes feel.

Your style is inclusive – you acknowledge all members of the forum and you seek to commit yourself to all in the group – there is no sense of favouritism which I have observed with other groups in the past.

I am really touched with your enthusiasm and warmth for what you are doing. It gives you integrity. Keep up the good work!”

CHRIS' STORY

The training helped us to utilise a range of digital platforms to not only reach the world online with the good news of Jesus but also to help us move our organization and internal communication processes into the 21st century.

We’ll be drawing on the tools, tips and techniques learned in this program in the coming years as we seek to make disciples of Jesus and bless our community.

LUKE'S STORY

“Evan ran the course and presented a well thought out and structured approach to bringing aspects of the church into the digital age. He presented his material at a level that was understandable and engageable for people who had not taken any steps into the digital realm yet, while also presenting content useful to tech savvy people (like myself).”

SONDY'S STORY

"Evan is an easy-to-listen-to presenter and facilitator. He covered the process by which we can discover our voice and our audience, prepare our social media engagement, what that looks like from pre-production to post-production, and what helpful tools can help automate this for us. He also offered to set up helpful post-course engagement for participants.

The course was useful as an overview, enabling us to identify where we may have blockages and what advantages we can gain from various online platforms. The post-course engagement offered promises to help us by collaborating with others with more experience."

BRIAN'S STORY

I highly recommend these sessions to any person or group wanting to reach people out in the digital world. Evan from Digital Team Coach presented the training in a way that was easy to comprehend while at a level that provided a greater depth of understanding of how to get the most out of digital media opportunities.

With very useful content, the chance to ask questions and clarify points together with being provided with resources and links to many of them at the end of the course I found myself confident that I will be able to provide valuable input to our digital media strategy. Thank you Digital Team Coach.

ANNE'S STORY

Evan's gentle approach to 'technologically challenged' people was great. He shared his expertise generously giving me tools to make my job easier, confidence to try new things, and a fresh outlook on how Social Media can be used to reach people who haven't experienced the love of God in their lives.
